Day 41

Today’s #marchmeetthemaker prompt is “full time or part time”. I feel lucky enough to say this is my full time gig. I teach privately and paint my butt off in the winter, and I do art fairs in the summer.

This beetle is on the work bench today. I love adding layer, after layer, of my unique watercolors to create texture on these pieces. The beauty of painting on panel, is you can see the texture better than behind glass.

New Work, New Website, New Year!

So, this was sort of a fluke, but we have a new website! I couldn't be happier, because even though my other website was great, this one is better. And it has way more potential with sharing video (hint hint hint). It also will zoom into my images super close so you can see details. Please check it out, and let me know what you think! And if you haven't already, sign up for my newsletter to receive 20% off your first purchase.

New Work in the Gallery! Check it out.

I had a wonderful experience at the South Haven Art Fair on July 1st and 2nd! A lot of paintings went to new homes, and I met so many wonderful people and artists. I also won the Emerging Artist award, which was a huge surprise. I definitely plan on going back next year.

Studio Snap Shots

A few months ago I painted and re-organized part of my studio space. This is my "Clean Space", where I do my painting. My work space is actually located in five parts of my home. I also have an office, where I do all of my digital work and business. A dark room / print room, where I do all my photography and printmaking work. I have a room dedicated as a warehouse, where I store all my finished work. And a wood shop a.k.a. garage, where we do the framing. One day I will build a dedicated structure that will house all aspects of the business, and it is my dream to offer an apprenticeship program for artists.

Throw Back Thursday

I have been feeling under the weather, so, regretfully, I have not been in the studio in a while. I hope to be in the studio soon. I have a lot of new work in my head, I just need to get my hands dirty. I thought I would share some oldies with you in the mean time. Tell me what you think.

Butterfly Waltz / My First Video

This was originally posted in 2017

This is my first video! This painting was made with ink, salt, alum, and silver leaf. I love the process of making these pieces, so this is my attempt to share my love of the process. The song is Waltz in A minor by Chopin, performed by Aya Higuchi. It is a special song to me because Chopin is my favorite composer, and I have performed this song at several performances (back in the day). Thank you for viewing. Please note, this artwork has sold.

A skull and a beetle

Here are a few of my new pieces that are waiting to get framed. We cut the maple, now we just have to assemble, varnish, and purchase the glass. It's a long process from start to finish, but at least it is rewarding.

I have been experimenting with alternative materials, and different subject matter. I am breaking from my theme, hoping it will come full circle in the end. I have a lot of ideas but I am still in the phase were I am figuring out how to execute them. It's intimating and exciting. I hope to take some in-progress shots soon. I am also working on a video.

Thank you, as always.
